There is hardly anything new in the presentation of Ancient Egypt, although the soundtrack is perhaps somewhat unusual.
Look under the hood, however, and you'll soon discover a few unusual elements. The 6×3 grid with 729 winning ways is one thing, but the symbol values are lower than usual to compensate. However, you do get wild symbols with a multiplier of up to x3 in both the base game and the bonus round. The latter uses a unique expanding symbol collection system that adds extra positions for future "book of" mechanics triggers, which can lead to payouts of up to 10,000 times your bet.
Features of the Book of Golden Sands slot
Premium symbols pay 2 to 5 x your bet for 6 wins, and the Scarab Wild appears on reels 2 to 4, replacing paying symbols and helping to complete winnings. The Wild symbol has a multiplier of x2 or x3, and thus wild symbols increase all line wins in which they are involved.

At first glance we thought we had another hackneyed "book" clone in front of us, but at first glance there is much more here than in the fairly standard representation of Ancient Egypt. First of all, you get 729 ways to win, which is unusual, but the symbol values are also much lower than in a typical book slot. However, you also get wild symbols with x2 and x3 multipliers to brighten things up, so the base game, at least in theory, can provide pretty decent payouts.
The main attraction, of course, is the bonus round, and it comes with a very unusual twist that we've never seen before. You are still somewhat at the mercy of which symbol is chosen to become the expanding one, but we really liked the concept of adding positions to make each expansion trigger more lucrative than the previous one. This adds to the tension before the climactic/anti climactic ending, which can result in a payout of 10,000 times, at best.
